In a powerful demonstration of unity, compassion, and corporate responsibility, staff from Pirtek UK and Ireland took part in the global Darkness Into Light walk on May 10th, 2025. The event, organised annually by Irish suicide prevention charity Pieta, serves as both a fundraiser and a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health support and suicide prevention.
Beginning in the pre-dawn hours, Pirtek teams from across the UK and Ireland gathered in their local communities to walk together as daylight broke, symbolising hope and solidarity for those impacted by suicide and self-harm. Employees, family members, and friends joined the initiative, creating a collective footprint of awareness and support across the region.
Pieta’s Darkness Into Light initiative has grown into a global movement, uniting people in over 200 locations around the world. For Pirtek, this was not just about walking—it was about standing up for a cause that touches lives both inside and outside the workplace.
“We were proud to walk side-by-side this morning, knowing that each step we took helped raise awareness for suicide prevention and showed our support for anyone who might be struggling,” said Cathy Doyle, Director at Pirtek Belfast and Dublin. “The experience was moving and uplifting. It reminds us of the strength in community, especially when we come together to support such a vital cause.”
As a leading provider of hydraulic solutions, Pirtek UK and Ireland places high importance on employee wellbeing and community engagement. Their participation in Darkness Into Light reflects a growing commitment to mental health initiatives and supporting employees beyond the workplace.
The event also included fundraising efforts within Pirtek’s network, helping to raise crucial funds for Pieta’s free services, including counselling and 24/7 crisis helplines for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or engaging in self-harm.
With mental health challenges on the rise, particularly in high-pressure industries, Pirtek’s active involvement sends a clear message: mental health matters, and no one should face their darkest moments alone.
As the sun rose on May 10th, so too did the spirits of those walking. It was a sunrise of hope, one step at a time. To donate to this amazing cause, please visit Darkness into Light – Pirtek
