Pirtek BMW Racing’s Andrew Jordan will seek to return to front-running form this weekend when the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to Thruxton for the third meeting of the year.
Having started his campaign with a podium finish at Brands Hatch, Andrew found himself out of luck last time out at Donington Park when a rare mechanical issue in qualifying left him firmly on the back foot at his home circuit.
Although he recovered on race day to end his weekend with a fifth place finish, two tough races earlier in the meeting means he now heads for the fastest circuit on the BTCC calendar sitting in an unrepresentative 14th place in the championship standings.
A major plus for the 2013 champion however has been the pace in his West Surrey Racing-run BMW 125i M Sport, which has been consistently quick during the opening rounds of the year.
Andrew will now seek to make the most of that speed at a circuit where he has traditionally gone well – with wins in both 2014 and 2016, and seven further podium finishes.
Half of his six career pole positions have also come at the high-speed Hampshire venue, whilst the circuit is also one where the BMW has been strong in the past – with WSR team-mates Rob Collard and Colin Turkington both taking victory twelve months ago.
“I feel a sense of déjà vu heading to Thruxton as like last year, we are going there on the back of a tough weekend at Donington where luck wasn’t on our side,” he said. “However, we showed once again that we have a quick car and we know what it is one that is proven around Thruxton, as we saw last year with Rob and Colin taking a win apiece.
“With no success ballast on my car, I’m hopeful that we can put in a good performance in qualifying to get ourselves towards the sharp end of the grid and away from any trouble. That will give us the best chance of them pushing for some good results in what is a very competitive field this season.
“I’m going into the weekend in confident mood as Thruxton is a circuit where I have gone well in the past, and is one that has given me plenty of good memories in my career so far. My aim is to add to those memories this weekend and my focus is on trying to push for the podium to bring home some silverware.”
